I love being home. Not for one reason more than another…but just because it’s a nice change of pace from the routine I have in Lubbock. I like spending time with Jay every day even though long distance really isn’t that hard once you adjust.
He starts his first real job tomorrow at Fidelity. I’m really excited for him and nervous too. I want him to excel in everything he does because he deserves to be great, appreciated, happy, and stable. I hope he likes working. I really, really do. I also hope he doesn’t meet some slutty coworker who wears glasses and short skirts.
Kidding. Sort of.
I was talking to my dad’s parents the other day and asked them what their life was like before kids and what all they did when they were growing up. They told so many stories. How my Gran lived in California and Missouri for awhile when she was a kid and how the both of them met at a swimming pool in Dallas. She was wearing a animal print swimsuit, looked “damn good” and were together ever since. They both agreed it was love at first sight. They got married when she was 14 and he bought her a ring but didn’t have enough for a wedding band so he bought a cheap old thing that turned her finger green. They moved to California and he was a marine at Camp Pendleton. They traveled all over and he spoke about all the odd jobs he had. Their stories make me think about how things are now and what I’ll think 50+ years down the road…God willing I make it that far. Anyway, it’s weird that this is real life and Jay’s first job is something, that hopefully, if things work out, I’ll look back to as a fond memory of how life used to be for us.
